A special commemorative event was held under the patronage of President Maithripala Sirisena to mark Matara district Parliamentarian and Minister of Finance Mangala Samaraweera’s 30 years in politics at the BMICH, today (28).
Mr. Mangala Samaraweera first elected to Parliament in 1989 and since then he rendered a great service to the development of the people in Matara as well as in the country, by holding several ministerial portfolios.
This event was organized under the theme, ‘Dare to Dream of a new Sri Lanka’ and the President addressing the gathering said that the Minister Mangala Samaraweera is very committed to carrying out all the responsibilities entrusted to him, and he is a politician who respects democracy and reconciliation.
The President appreciating his 30 years of political career extended his blessings for his future activities.
The former US Ambassador to the United Nations Samantha Power delivered the key note address to mark the occasion.
Ministers and MPs including Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe, Opposition Leader Mahinda Rajapaksa, former President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga,R. Sampanthan, public servants, diplomats and other dignitaries were present on this occasion.
