President Maithripala Sirisena says that silence on the part of intellectuals and vesting the responsibilities on the politicians alone is a hindrance to the development of the country.
He made these remarks participating at a ceremony to hand over appointment letters to teachers of the Southern Province held at the Weligama Urban Council, today (27).
President Sirisena symbolically handed appointment letters to some teachers in Sinhala and Tamil Medium.
Addressing the gathering, President Sirisena further said that intellectuals are capable of rendering a great service towards the country and everyone should unite in this regard.
The President also appreciated the enormous service rendered by all teachers and pointed out their responsibility on building a well-disciplined person to the society.
The President congratulated all those who were appointed today.
