Rs.134 million for the development of religious places in Polonnaruwa district
President Maithripala Sirisena says the religious places of the country, including the temples, churches and kovils will be strengthened to build a better generation for the betterment of the future of our nation. He also said that we can achieve the national reconciliation through building religious harmony in the country.
The President made these remarks participating in a ceremony to declare open the Bhikku Hostel at the Lankapura Pulastigama Siri Parakum Piriven, built at a cost of Rs.14.3 million under the “Pibidemu Polonnaruwa” District Development Programme, today (01).
President Sirisena addressing the gathering further said that the government is paying its attention to develop moral-spiritual values of the people as well as the government is paying attention to develop the physical resources of the country.
The President pointed out the necessity of an educated Bhikku generation to build a better society and said that the government has implemented a comprehensive programme to provide all necessary facilities to the Maha Sangha and to develop all the temples across the island.
The government has taken steps to develop the Madhu shrine area a sacred site and Madhu Shrine becomes the first Catholic shrine to be developed as a sacred place, the President added.
President Sirisena also unveiled the newly built Wahalkada and the Walakulu Bamma at the Lankapura Pulastigama Siri Parakum Piriven, under the finances of the Central Cultural Fund.
The construction works of the Bhikku hostel were done by the 15th Engineer Service Regiment of the Sri Lanka Army and the President presented a memento to the Commanding Officer Major Punchihewa.
The Dayaka Sabawa including the Chief Incumbent of the Temple Ven. Habarana Ratana Dhamma Thero also presented a memento to the President.
The Maha Sangha including the Chief Incumbent of Somawathi Raja Maha Viharaya Ven. Pahamune Sri Sumangala Thero, Sri Rammanya Maha Nikaye Lekakadikari Rajakiya Pandita Ven. Attangane Sasanaratana Thero, Minister Wijedasa Rajapakse, Ministers and MPs and others participated on this occasion.
The money allocated for the development of religious places in Polonnaruwa under Pibidemu Polonnarua district development programme is Rs.134 million. Rs.24 million is allocated for the development of 20 Daham pasal buildings.
It is scheduled to offer the developments taken place in religions places to the Sangha within tomorrow and the day after tomorrow under the under Pibidemu Plonnaruwa program to grant rights of 180 projects to the public within three days.
Meanwhile the modernized Dharmashala building of the Jayanthipura Chethiyagiri ancient Raja Maha Vihara of Hikurakgoda was opened by Deputy Minister Lasantha Alagiyawanna and Vice Chancellor of University of Kelaniya Prof. D.M.Semasighe.
Chief Incumbent of Polonnaruwa Thamnkaduwa districts Ven. Dadubediruppe Upananda Thero,Chief Bhikku of the Vihara Ven.Naranwita Dhammaloka Thero and Mahasangha were present in this event.
The new Dharmashala building of Hukurakgoda Doradeka Sri Swaranathilakarama Vihara spending Rs.55million was offered to the sangha with the participation of Member of Parliament Chatura Senarathna, former Chief Minister of North Central Province Peshala Jayarathna.
The new building for Sangha built in of Hikurakgoda Sri Baodhirukkarma ancient Vihara spending Rs.5.26 million was opened by Minister Wasantha Senanayake and State Minister Weerakumara Dissanayake.
The two floor building with boarding facilities for Bhikkus of Hikurakgoda Jayamaha Pirivena built in Hikuakgoda Jayamaha Pirivena spending Rs.3.39 million was offered to the Sangha with the participation of minister Lucky Jayawardena and Deputy Minister Sarathi Dushmantha.
