President Maithripala Sirisena made an inspection tour in the Kebithigollewa area today (30), to look into the issues faced by the people who have been affected as a result of the dry weather conditions prevailing in the country.
The President first visited Kahatagollewa in the Kebithigollewa Divisional Secretariat Division.
The President, who made an unscheduled visit to the area, was warmly welcomed by the people.
The people in the area informed the President about the problems they face and requested him to provide the drinking water facilities. The President immediately contacted the relevant officials and directed them to provide the drinking water to the people. He directed them to take immediate steps to ensure supply of drinking water.
When the people told the President that they are in a difficulty as they couldn’t cultivate three seasons in a row, the President directed relevant local authorities to speedily provide them dry rations. He also directed the officials to construct an elephant fence after the people explained about the threats from the elephants.
President Sirisena observed the Kahatagollewa Kudapuliyankulama Tank which has totally dried up due to the draught.
He accepted a cup of herbal drink, offered by a villager.
