6th day of National Drug Prevention Week today

Many programmes held island-wide today…

Today marks the sixth day of the island-wide National Drug Prevention Week launched under the President Maithripala Sirisena in parallel to the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking.

The sixth day of the programme was launched today (29th) with the participation of the college students, the University students, professional training students and the general public.

The Presidential Secretariat and the Drug Control Board have organized a number of drug prevention programmes at the university level today.

Meanwhile, a public awareness programme on rehabilitating those who are addicted to illegal substances organized by the Commissioner General of Rehabilitation and the Aththanagalla Pradeshiya Sabha in Aththanagalla was held at Aththanagalla Pradeshiya Sabha auditorium. Family members of Drug addicted persons, members of community organizations were also participated in this occasion.

An anti-narcotics march organized by the Udawalawe Police station was held from Udawalawa Junction to R.E.T. Junction in parallel to National Drug Prevention Week. Members of the Maha Sangha in Udawalawa, the Udawalawa Police OIC, members of various community organizations and residents of the area were also participated to the march.

An awareness programme on drug prevention was organized by the Mt. Lavinia Municipal Council today.

Another walk organized by the Giriulla Community Police Unit and it was held with the participation of the students of Giriulla Wickramashila Central College today.

An awareness programme was held today at the Pulathisi Chandra Pavilion in Polonnaruwa under the theme ‘Get Rid of Alcohol Free from Drug Abuse’. The North Central Provincial Council had organized it.

Awareness programme for the residents of Kesbewa area was held at Kahapola Sri Saddharmarama Viharaya, Piliyandala today.

The final day of National Drugs Prevention Week will commence tomorrow (30th) with the participation of public sector field officers.
