President requests not to allow any room to achieve objectives of terrorists by dividing into ethnic groups

The objectives of the terrorists are being fulfilled through creating conflicts among the communities based on their ethnicities, said President Maithripala Sirisena.

The President requested all Sri Lankans not to allow any room to achieve the objective of terrorists to divide the country. He made these remarks addressing the State Vesak Festival held at the Thotugamuwa Purana Rathpath Raja Maha Vihara in Hikkaduwa, today (17).

Speaking further, the President said that the attack on the 21st is not a problem in our country but an issue in the international arena. The President also highlighted the difficulty that has to be face by the country, if the people attempt to create this problem as an issue in our country.

President Sirisena emphasized that even though whatever allegations were leveled against him, he had taken every possible step that could be taken to ensure the country’s national security and to take the country back to normalcy.

The President said that the truth is spreading very slowly and the falsehood is spreading very fast and promised that every step will be taken to eradicate terrorism from the country despite the challenges that he has to face.

He said that the teaching of the Buddhist philosophy have given clear guidance to treat everyone equally, ensure social justice and to love everyone, and further said that none of the spiritual philosophies had taught to assassinate people.

The President who visited the temple first engaged in the religious observances and obtained blessings.

President Sirisena unveiled the plaque to declare the Thotugamuwa Purana Rathpath Raja Maha Viharaya as a Sacred Town.

A series of programmes including providing financial assistance to temples and Dhamma schools as well as symbolizing the issue of Upasampada certificates through Divisional Secretariats, was held under the patronage of the President.

The Maha Sangha including the Maha Nayaka Theros of the Tri-Nikayas, Minister of  Buddha Sasana Gamini Jayawickrama Perera, Ministers and MPs including Ministers  Vajira Abeywardena, Gayantha Karunatilake, Arjuna Ranathunga, Governor of the Southern Province Rajith  Keerthi Tennakoon, former Chief Minister Shan Wijayalal De Silva, Secretary to the President, Udaya R. Senevirathne, Secretary to the Ministry of Buddha Sasana, Commissioner General of Buddhist Affairs, public servants including the Galle District Secretary, devotees and others participated in this event.

Meanwhile, the President also opened the newly built Dhathu Mandiraya at the premises of the historic Sinigama Maha Devalaya , today (17). The President paid the first floral tribute to the Buddha statue of the Dhathu Mandiraya.

The President planted a Sapling to mark this occasion at the premises of the Devalaya.
