President Maithripala Sirisena declared open One Earth Arboretum (urban forest garden), established by Dilmah Tea Company in Katubedda today (Feb. 07).
The One Earth Arboretum is a biodiversity experience that is designed to present the aesthetic, functional and psychological value of nature in an engaging and educational facility.
This was established by Dilmah founder Merrill J. Fernando at a cost of Rs. 250 million for the benefit of present and future generations.
The One Earth Arboretum expanding in nine acres, features over 500 floral species in two ecosystems including traditional tank centric agriculture, rain fed chena cultivation and paddy cultivation.
The President inaugurated the program to plant 10000 fruit plants at this occasion.
Deputy Minister Eran Wickramarathne, Chairman of Dilmah Company Merrill J. Fernando, its Board of Directors including Mr. Dilhan C. Fernando and many others participated at this event.
The president also observed the children center established by the Dilmah Company for the children with special needs. He who had cordial discussions with the children and joined them singing.
