President Maithripala Sirisena says that the people of this country will not allow the attempts made by a single family using a political party, to form a Government yet again to succeed and pointed out that those people do not have a national political objective or a clear vision or proper policies for the future of the country.
He made these remarks addressing a public rally held in Katunayake on January 30.
President Sirisena further said that the then government on January 08, 2015 was defeated as a result of not taking actions to prevent frauds and corruption as well as because of its desire to establish a political dynasty and said that at present there is no room in the country to spread such concepts like political dynasty and dictatorship.
The President recalled the way how the Rajapaksa family decided the policies of the Government, economic management as well as regarding appointing the persons to higher positions, since the end of 2013, ignoring the Ministers and the MPs of the Government.
The President emphasized that there is no room for anyone in the previous government or the present regime, who is involved in the Bond scam, the biggest robbery in the history of the Central Bank, to escape from punishment for their wrongdoings.
This public rally was held at the Katunayake Dravindra Mendis ground to ensure the victory of Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) led by United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA) candidates. It was attended by a huge crowd.
The former President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga, Minister Susil Premajayantha, State Minister Sudharshani Fernandopulle, Deputy Minister Lasantha Alagiyawanna, former Minister Felix Perera, Pandu Bandaranayake, Ruwan Ranatunga, Weerakumara Dissanayake, Anuruddha Polgampola, Somaweera Chandrasiri, A.S.P. Liyanage, Lalith Wanigarathna, Leader of the New Sihala Urumaya, Sanath Manamendra and many others participated in this meeting.
The President said that when working against fraud and corruption he will not consider race, party or family bonds and he has showed that law is equal to everybody including his own brothers.
The rally was organized to secure the victory of the candidates of United People’s Freedom Alliance from Dimbulagala district.
The Mahasangha of the area as well as priests of other religions and Northern Province Governor, Reginald Cooray, Former Chief Minister of the North Central Province, Peshala Jayarathne, N.V.Samantha and other candidates participated in this event.
The President also participated in the opening ceremony of the water purification system at Kahalagala Sri Dharmaraja Viharaya in Polonnaruwa in the morning. The water purification system was established under the promise given in the Policy Statement, “Good governance – A Stable Country,“ by the National Chronic Kidney Disease Prevention Programme and the Chief Executive of the Japanese Society Dr.Mitsuki Suge has donated funds to build the water system.
Under “Pibidemu Polonnaruwa” development program the building which was built on the premises of the Kalahagala Sri Dharmaraja Viharaya was opened by the President and vested with the students.
The President was blessed through chanting of Pirith by Viharadipathi and Polonnaruwa District Sanghanayake, Ven. Kuruwaoye Dhammdassi Thero and other members of the Mahasanga.
Chief Minister of the North Central Province Peshala Jayarathne was also present in this event.
President then participated in several rallies organized in order to confirm the victory of the SLFP-UPFA candidate contesting for the Dimbulagaala Pradesheeya Sabha.
The president first joined a public meeting held in Dimbulagala, Galthalawa and later addressed a meeting in Yaaya 08 Bodhiya.
The President was warmly welcomed by the residents near Yaaya 08 bridge, which is one of the projects conducted for Polonnaruwa by the President when he was first elected to the parliament in 1989.
Later he joined a public meeting near Yaaya 05 Sri Visuddarama Temple.
This meeting was held to ensure the victory of Aralaganwila and Wijayabapura candidates of Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) led United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA).
Later the President joined a public meeting held in Bogas Handiya area.
Addressing the people, the President emphasized that he managed to continue the projects planned for Palannaruwa as the President. These projects were commenced when he was a Member of Parliament.
People were always with the leaders who fought against bribery, corruption and autocracy, the President said. He added that he continues the battle against the bribery and corruption together with the people.
Reginald Cooray, Governor of the Northern Province, Peshala Jayarathna, former Chief Minister of the North Central Province, and the candidates were present in the meeting.
