The inauguration ceremony of the National Program to build 10, 000 eco-friendly Haritha Suhuru villages (Smart villages), island wide, within the next four years, under the program “Neela Haritha Lassana Lanka” (Beautiful Green Lanka), was held under the patronage of President Maithripala Sirisena, at the Sanasa Education Campus in Paragammana ,Kegalle, today (July 1).
The world leaders, at the Climate Change Summit held in Paris in 2015, agreed to act for not to exceed the global warming than Celsius 2.
The program to build 10, 000 of eco-friendly Haritha Suhuru , villages is among the key projects that has implemented in Sri Lanka towards that pledge given in Paris.
Addressing the gathering he further stated that the prime attention of all the world leaders, as well as all organizations, including the United Nation has been drawn to conserve and nourish the natural resources.
All the citizens joining strongly in the Neela Haritha Villages program, is a fulfilling a responsibility towards the future of the nation as it contributes to save our future generations from harmful effects due to the environmental destruction.
The President pointed out that this programme will encourage the lifestyle which nourish and protect the natural resources while living with it.
The President presented awards to the activities of the Neela Haritha Lassana Lanka Program covering nine provinces.
The President also presented a cheque to the wife of late Economic Developemt Officer who died due to the landslide in Aranayake.
The President observed a conference organized for the members of the Sanasa.
He also planted a sandalwood sapling in the premises of Sanasa Education Campus.
The Maha Sangha including Ven. Dr. Ittapana Dhammalankara Maha Thera, other religious leaders, Ministers S. B. Dissanayake, Ranjith Siyambalapitiya, Chief Minister of Sabaragamuwa, Mahipala Herath, Ministers and MPs including State Minister Champika Premadasa, Deputy Minister, Anuradha Jayaratne, Mr. Udaya R. Senevirathne, Secretary/ Ministry of Mahaweli Development and Environment, Dr P. A. Kiriwandeniya, founder of the SANASA movement and many others participated in the event.
