A religious ceremony was held under the patronage of President Maithripala Sirisena to vest the newly built Sri Gauthama Sambuddha Mandiraya and Siri Sugathawansa Uposathagaraya (Chapter House) at the Godakawela Malwessavehera Meditation Centre, with the Maha Sangha, today (29).
According to the historical records, the King Devanampiyatissa planted Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi branches throughout the country and built temples and made the whole country a Sambuddha territory.
It was further mentioned that the first branch of the detispala bodhis of the Sri Maha Bodhi Tree planted in this sacred premises.
Fulfilling a shortage prevailed at this magnificent Malwessavehera Meditation Centre these new constructions have been completed with the financial donations made by the President and his family members personally under the guidance of the Most Ven. Patakada Sumanatissa Nayaka Thera.
President Sirisena unveiled the plaque and opened the Sri Gauthama Sambuddha Mandiraya and the President made the first offering of flowers to the Buddha statue
Later, he joined in the religious rituals in front of the Bo tree.
Kiriweldeniya Temple, Budulena Rajamaha Viharaya the Most Venerable Pathakada Wimalarathanabhidhana Nayaka Thero, Madam Jayanthi Sirisena and family members, State minister Mr. Dunesh Gankanda, the Governor of Sabaragamuwa Mr. Damma Disanayake were also present in this occasion.
