President attends birth centenary celebration of poet P. B. Alwis Perera

The birth centenary celebration of late P. B. Alwis Perera who was a leading poet of Colombo Era and rendered a great service to Sinhala poetry and literature was held today (March 3) under the patronage of President Maithripala Sirisena at Sri Lanka Foundation Institute.

The Book ‘P. B. Kiviyara – Siyawas Harasara, edited by Mr. P. M. Senarathne was presented to the President at this occasion. 

Another book written by the literate W. A. Abeysinghe was also presented to the President.

PB. Alwis Perera who was born on the 3rdof March 1917 in Palliyawatta, Kollupitiya was a great poet who nurtured the field of Sri Lankan poetry. His poems contributed to the freedom struggle against the colonial rulers.

Maha Nayaka of Sri Kalyani Samagri Maha Sangha Sabha Ven. Iththepane Dhammalankara Thero, Ven. Thrikunamalaye Ananda Maha Nayaka Thero, Prof. Ven. Bellanwila Vimalarathana Anunayaka Thero, and the President of the committee of P. B. Alwis Perera birth centenary celebration, State Minister T. B. Ekanayake were among those participated in this occasion.
