The first step on patriotic, decent and disciplined political path will be taken with the forthcoming local govt election win – President

President said that the people are aware who the real thieves are even though two groups in the present parliament divided into two and blame each other as a thief who snatches a wallet and scream, ‘thief, thief’.
President said as stated, yesterday (10) evening at the rally organized at Salgadu ground, Anuradhapura.
The first rally organized for the forthcoming provincial election by Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) led United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA) under the theme, ‘Nidahase Jana Hamuwa’, with the participation of a huge crowd.

Furthermore, The President said that this provincial election win of Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) led United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA) will be the first step taken on the patriotic, decent and disciplined political path, and he promised that he will not allow any representative who wins the election to become wealthy persons by earning money through politics and fill their pockets by ignoring the conscience of the people.

The President reminded that the bribery and corruptions committed by the members of provincial councils was the main reason for the down fall of the previous government in 2015 Presidential Election, even though there were several reasons built up for a period of over three years for the loss. He reiterated that there is no right whatsoever for any member of provincial councils, pradesheeya sabha, parliament or prime minister or president to touch the peoples’ money.

President Sirisena said that the Moragahakanda reservoir, which was an election pledge in every election but not become a reality, could be finally vest with the Rajarata people fulfilling that historic responsibility towards them. He also said that it is regrettable that the person who tries to claim right for this development project are the persons who didn’t allocate even a five-cent for this great task during the last five years. If the work had been done in those days, Rajarata paddy fields could have been harvested five years ago utilizing the water of Moragahakanda reservoir.

The President further said that even though the allegations were leveled against the present government on hunting the war heroes, actually it was done by the previous government by putting former Commander of Army, Sarath Fonseka behind bars. He also said that the people of this country are aware of the fact that it was the present government which protects the Army, Navy and Air Force war heroes from the international allegations while protecting their dignity and pride.

The President said that the only progressive political movement of the country is the SLFP which take the country forward while protecting the patriotism, the national identity as well as the heritage. All the people should rally around the SLFP to build a prosperous nation in the future through a clean political movement, he said.

Many prominent activists of the UNP, Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna and Nidahas Peramuna (National Freedom Front) joined the SLFP assuring their fullest support for the programme carried out by the President.
SLFP General Secretary Minister Duminda Dissanayake, General Secretary of the United Peoples Freedom Alliance (UPFA) Mahinda Amaraweera, SLFP Senior Vice President, Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva, Ministers Susil Premajayantha and Anura Priyadarshana Yapa and ministers and MPs participated in this meeting.
