‘One of my main expectations is to save innocent people from kidney disease’ – President on World Kidney Day

 

“When I was the Minister of Health one of my prime expectations was to save the innocent people from the chronic kidney disease, which has been a huge social tragedy and I made many efforts in this regard” issuing a message to mark the World Kidney Day President Maithripala Sirisena stated.

Following my appointment as the President, I have implemented various programmes and through the establishment of the Presidential Task Force on Prevention of Kidney Diseases many successful steps had been taken to support the people, the President further said.

To facilitate the kidney patients living in Anuradhapura, Trincomalee, Polonnaruwa and Ampara districts an upgraded Kidney Unit was established at the Polonnaruwa General Hospital, he added.

Clean drinking water supply projects being implemented in these districts to provide clean drinking water to the public, the message further said.

President Maithripala Sirisena has requested all the people to unite to fight against this menace and to eradicate it from the society.
