President Maithripala Sirisena says he is ready to make the SLFP a victorious party. “From the past, the SLFP is a party which moved forward through challenges and achieved victory. It will happen in the future too”, he said.
The President was speaking at the SLFP Membership Promotion Program in Galle District held today (Nov. 26) at the Town Hall, Galle.
He emphasized that he would definitely fulfill his responsibility to bring the victory to the SLFP in the Provincial Council elections to be held on the middle of next year. He said he SLFP will contest with its historic ‘hand’ symbol and he would guide the party to the victory by uniting all leftist progressive parties with the SLFP.
“In the government activities, I will fulfill the responsibilities of the SLFP which appears for the common man, provides economic reliefs and protect democratic rights of the people”, he said.
The President pointed out that the extremisms in the North and the South should be rejected and we should build a country where all communities can live with confidence and trust. “As the President, I should work for all the people of the country”, he said.
“As the SLFP, we should teach a new lesson about how to work honestly by refusing fraud, corruption and irregularity, and not putting the money of the people into our pockets”, the President stated. He also revealed information about irregular use of Rs. 4012 millions of the Nilwala project during the former government.
“I have requested the new American President Donald Trump to assist the future development activities and the government’s activities of Sri Lanka. We will take actions to direct the UNHRC proposals to the new American President and hold discussions with him through special representatives to free the country from this situation. I believe that we can achieve the victory on this regard”, the President further stated.
The President also expressed his condolence for the demise of the great leftist politician of the world politics, Fidel Castro.
The President presented memberships cards symbolizing of offering new SLFP memberships.
General Secretary of the SLFP Duminda Dissanayake, General Secretary of the UPFA Mahinda Amaraweera and the former minister Piyasena Gamage also participated in this occasion.
