03“Accountants can play a pivotal role in eradicating corruption and malpractices in the country”, said President Maithripala Sirisena.

The President further said that to maintain better financial management and financial discipline, accountants should fulfill their duties properly.

He made these observations participating in the Global Management Accounting Summit 2015, in Colombo on July 27.

The objective of the present Government is to properly utilize the grants and financial assistance received for the development projects in the country while building a better financial management within the country, he added.

Therefore, the next new Parliament will give top priority to adoption of the National Audit Bill, President Sirisena said.

The Global Management Accounting Summit 2015 commenced on July 27 under the theme ‘Business Resilience through Integrated Reporting’.

Representatives from 12 countries, including the UK, USA, Singapore, Malaysia and South Africa and South Asian countries participated in the event.

The president was received at the venue by the Prof. Lakshman R. Watawala, President of Association of Accounting Technicians of Sri Lanka and the members of the Association.

President of the International Federation of Accountants, Ms. Olivia Kirtley, several Presidents of the South Asian Accounting Associations and representatives of accounting institutions participated in the Summit.

The President also presented awards and certificates for 25 best institutions for Excellence in Accounting.
