President Maithripala Sirisena yesterday (Aug. 04) met Mr. Ananda Withana who was critically injured by the suicide bomb attack aimed at the President during his time as the Minister of Agriculture and Agrarian Services in 2008.
The President went to Mr. Withana’s house in Piliyandala last evening to inquire into his health. He inquired about the medical treatment for Mr. Withana and held cordial discussion with his family members and close relations.
Mr. Ananda Withana who worked as a Senior Consultant of Agriculture Ministry was also a long-term friend of President Sirisena.
President Sirisena narrowly escaped from the suicide terrorist bomb blast that targeted his motorcade at Pirivena junction Boralesgamuwa when he was returning after a Government function in Bandaragama.
He escaped unharmed and one of the cars in the convoy was caught in the suicide attack. Mr. Ananda Withana was among those who injured in the attack.
Since then President Sirisena regularly inquired about the condition of Mr. Withana and provided required facilities to him.
