President participates in oil anointing ceremony

The state oil anointing ceremony for the New Year was held today (April 16) at the Sri Pushparama Temple in Malegoda, Payagala, with participation of President Maithripala Sirisena.

After the religious activities, the Chief Incumbent of the sub divisions of Bentara and Valallavita, Thripitakacharya Ven. Malegoda Nanda Thero anointed oil to the President at the auspicious time, 10.41a.m.

During this occasion, the Maha Sangha chanted pirith and blessed the President and the people of the country.
President Sirisena planted a red sandalwood plant in the premises of the temple to mark this occasion.

He also had cordial discussions with those who gathered at the temple to wish the President a Happy New Year.

Commissioner of Ayurveda Mr. L. H. Thilakarathne presented a handbook on Ayurveda to the President at this occasion.

Mrs. Jayanthi Sirisena, Ministers Rajitha Senarathne, Sarath Fonseka, Mahinda Samarasinghe and the Governor of the Northern Province Reginald Corey also participated in this occasion.
