Whatever pressure put on public servants, they should not allow any room to occur illegal activities & irregularities – President

President Maithripala Sirisena emphasized that whatever the pressures put on the public servants, they should not allow any room to occur illegal activities and irregularities.           

He made these remarks addressing the new Ministry Secretaries at the Presidential Secretariat, yesterday (21).

After presenting the appointment letters to the new Ministry Secretaries, President Sirisena said that he himself personally and as the President of the country will stand on behalf of the public servants who take correct decision for the betterment of the motherland and the people.  

Although, we used the word of good governance numerous times, yet, the people had not given a certificate that the administration of the country is pure, the President said and requested all the Ministry Secretaries to fulfill their respective duties appropriately to achieve the better state administration that people wish for.  

President Sirisena said that continuously the people of this country join hands with the fight against the fraud and corruption, and said that the frauds that are being carried out using public money and resources cannot be kept as a secret all the times, and one day it will be revealed to the public, and surely the culprits will be punished.  

The President said that the main challenge before us is to build a country as a nation free of poverty and with a disciplined society and said that in overcoming those challenges he has kept full confidence in the public servants.   

The President said that the responsibility of the Ministry Secretaries is to continuously look into the operational functions of the Ministries as well as, all the departments, corporations and statutory boards under the Ministries and instructed the Secretaries to visit those relevant institutions once a month to meet the staff of those intuitions to guide them.

Secretary to the President Udaya R. Seneviratne also participated on this occasion.
